KPMG-one of the world's largest professional services firms, offering audit, tax, legal, and advisory services across 138 countries and territories-has announced a global alliance with Anthropic to embed Claude at the center of its operations.

Under this alliance, KPMG is integrating Claude into Digital Gateway, the platform that KPMG's professionals and clients rely on for day-to-day work, beginning with new tools for tax and legal clients. Additionally, all 276,000+ KPMG employees worldwide will receive access to Claude.

Anthropic has also designated KPMG as a preferred partner for private equity, and the two organizations plan to co-develop new Claude-powered products for PE portfolio companies.

KPMG and Claude

KPMG assists organizations across various industries in transforming, innovating, and competing in a rapidly evolving landscape. Embedding AI throughout its core business advances that mission-and demands trust and rigor.

Bill Thomas, Global Chairman and CEO of KPMG International, stated that KPMG is innovating and redefining how work gets done, and that the global alliance with Anthropic reflects a shared commitment to responsible AI, with a focus on security, trust, and governance as KPMG firms scale these capabilities for clients and employees worldwide.

Daniela Amodei, Co-founder and President of Anthropic, noted that KPMG operates in industries where accuracy, accountability, and trust are non-negotiable, and that the firm applies the same exacting standard to AI. She highlighted that KPMG is deploying Claude to 276,000 people across the business, using it for client work in tax and private equity, and bringing it into cybersecurity to help identify and remediate vulnerabilities-describing it as what a firm-wide AI commitment looks like.

Claude for 276,000+ KPMG Employees

Beyond client-facing applications, every KPMG employee-all 276,000+ of them-will have access to Claude. This builds on two years of adoption within KPMG in the US, including its AI and Data Labs and internal teams.

As the rollout scales, KPMG and Anthropic will collaborate with shared clients to co-develop new offerings and modernize business functions by integrating Claude into more of KPMG's operations to help teams tackle previously unsolvable problems.

Cybersecurity is one such area. Across the alliance, KPMG and Anthropic teams will leverage Claude to detect and address vulnerabilities in critical systems, guided by KPMG's Trusted AI framework.

Tim Walsh, Chair and CEO of KPMG US, emphasized that clients depend on KPMG where accuracy, judgment, and knowledge matter most, and that AI is transforming how the firm delivers-with trust and innovation at the core of the new offering.

Claude Powers KPMG's Digital Gateway Platform

Digital Gateway is KPMG's primary platform for client work. Built on Microsoft Azure, it houses KPMG's tax expertise, proprietary tools, and client data, and serves as the environment where KPMG's professionals build the AI tools they use daily.

With Claude Cowork and Managed Agents embedded inside the platform, KPMG professionals and their clients can develop new AI capabilities directly within Digital Gateway-replacing workflows that previously required switching between multiple tools, chat windows, and weeks of effort.

Rema Serafi, Vice Chair of Tax at KPMG US, explained that building an AI agent to help clients adapt to changing tax regulations formerly took weeks and required toggling between multiple tools. With Cowork and Managed Agents integrated into Digital Gateway, that same capability now takes minutes, representing an entirely different way of working.

A Preferred Partner for Private Equity

PE firms are wagering that AI will reshape how their portfolio companies operate. KPMG has become a preferred consultant for deploying Claude and Anthropic's agents into those portfolio companies, helping them build new AI-driven products, processes, and services responsibly with direct access to Claude.

This work ultimately reaches the employees and builders inside portfolio companies. To support them, KPMG has developed a new portfolio of PE-focused offerings, including KPMG Blaze, which can embed Claude Code to help teams modernize legacy IT systems faster and deliver new AI-enabled technology in a fraction of the typical timeline.

"Human in the Loop" in Practice

Joint research from KPMG and the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin is shedding light on how the value of AI deployments hinges on what people do alongside the technology-not just the technology itself.

Ethan Burris, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin, noted that while organizations often reference keeping a "human in the loop" when using AI, the research with KPMG helps clarify what that human should actually be doing. He explained that the greatest value comes not merely from technical adoption, but from how employees exercise judgment, shape workflows, interact with the technology, evaluate its outputs, and make decisions with AI. As these tools become more embedded in consequential work, responsible deployment will require both capable technology and a clearer understanding of the human role in creating value.
