Chris Liddell Joins Anthropic's Board of Directors

Anthropic has announced the appointment of Chris Liddell to its Board of Directors, bringing more than three decades of executive leadership expertise from major global corporations. Liddell has held CFO positions at Microsoft, General Motors, and International Paper, and served as Deputy White House Chief of Staff in the first Trump administration.

Daniela Amodei, Anthropic's Co-founder and President, emphasized that Liddell's career spans technology, public service, and governance, providing valuable judgment and experience as artificial intelligence's societal influence expands. She noted his proven ability to navigate high-stakes organizational challenges.

Liddell will serve alongside current board members Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, Yasmin Razavi, Jay Kreps, and Reed Hastings. Anthropic operates as a Public Benefit Corporation with its Board elected by shareholders and the Long-Term Benefit Trust.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the appointment, Liddell stated that his professional experience has shown him that the governance of revolutionary technologies is equally important as the technologies themselves. He praised Anthropic's commitment to developing AI that balances capability with responsibility.

Beyond his corporate leadership roles, Liddell serves on the boards of Commonwealth Fusion Systems and the Council on Foreign Relations. He has contributed to multiple presidential transition teams, authored a book on that subject, and led the American Technology Council at the White House, focusing on government technology modernization.

Liddell's accomplishments extend to environmental and philanthropic work. He chairs New Zealand's premier environmental foundation and has served on various nonprofit boards, including the New Zealand Rugby Union. His contributions to business and charitable causes earned him appointment as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2016.
