Anthropic is expanding its support for American scientific research with a $150 million, three-year commitment to the Genesis Mission. This federal initiative uses AI to speed up scientific and technological discovery. The money will make Claude available to more than 15 participating agencies, among them NASA, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.

Anthropic first announced its partnership with the US Department of Energy (DOE) and the Genesis Mission last December. Since then, Anthropic has worked with DOE to put Claude in the hands of scientists at the national laboratories. Anthropic announced the new commitment at the Science: A New Golden Age Summit, which the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy hosted in Washington, DC.

Supporting American scientists

Anthropic agrees with the administration's view, set out in "Science: A New Golden Age," that AI can greatly and positively influence scientific discovery. Anthropic is glad to back the administration's efforts to support American scientists.

Researchers at federal agencies and national laboratories tackle some of the hardest scientific problems in the world. Through this commitment, Anthropic aims to help them use Claude to make real progress in their work. Over the next three years, Anthropic will:

  • Provide Claude, Claude Code, and API credits to several hundred Genesis Mission research projects;
  • Work closely with agencies and national laboratories on the administration's top science priorities, including fusion energy and quantum computing; and
  • Offer training, onboarding, and technical support to scientists on Genesis Mission projects, and help agencies that are new to the Genesis Mission launch their first projects.

Accelerating scientific research

This commitment is part of Anthropic's wider effort to support scientific research. Earlier this year, Anthropic launched Claude Science, an AI workbench that brings together the tools and packages researchers use most, and opened 10,000 free and discounted Claude seats for academic scientists. Anthropic also expanded its AI for Science program, which gives credits to researchers on high-impact projects. It also began a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard, a shared specification that lets AI agents operate lab instruments safely. Anthropic's commitment to the Genesis Mission is its next step toward helping researchers everywhere.
