As Claude grows more capable in scientific research, Anthropic is focusing on developing products and programs to support the research community. In June, the company launched Claude Science, a product that integrates commonly used research tools, produces auditable artifacts, and offers flexible access to computing resources. Anthropic has also continued expanding its AI for Science program, which provides free credits to researchers tackling high-impact scientific projects.
Starting today, Anthropic is announcing a major expansion of these initiatives. The company is opening 10,000 seats for scientists worldwide to access Claude subscriptions at no cost or at reduced rates for one year through a new Claude team plan for scientists. Standard seats will be free, while premium seats offering 5x usage limits will be available for $15 per month. Anthropic plans to extend this program well beyond the initial 10,000 seats in the coming months.
Alongside these subscriptions, Anthropic is also broadening the scope and scale of its AI for Science program. Until now, the program has primarily supported scientists using Claude for biological sciences. Going forward, credits will also be offered to researchers in other scientific disciplines, including those engaged in ambitious, compute-heavy research-similar to the work that led to progress on the Riemann zeta function and Claude's contributions to protein design.
By helping scientists access and increase their usage of Claude through subscriptions, credits, and products like Claude Science, Anthropic aims to dramatically accelerate scientific discovery.
Ways to Access Claude
To register for Anthropic's Claude team plan for scientists, researchers can complete the verification form. Applicants must be a principal investigator or equivalent at an academic or nonprofit research institution to qualify; once verified, they can add lab members to their plan.
As labs use their allotted credits and need more usage than standard or premium plans provide, they can apply to the AI for Science program for up to $50,000 in credits per project. Any researcher is eligible to apply.
For the time being, researchers working in biology and chemistry will still be limited to Anthropic's Opus-class models. Claude Fable models will continue to block professional biology and drug development queries due to potential dual-use risks. Anthropic is working in partnership with the US government to establish an access program for life sciences professionals to use Mythos-class models for life sciences research and development. The first participants have been enrolled, and the company expects to share more details and broaden access soon.
