Anthropic is launching Claude Corps, a national fellowship program designed for early-career individuals who want to bring the benefits of AI to communities across the United States.

The program will train 1,000 fellows in effective use of Claude, pair them with nonprofits nationwide, and compensate them for spending a full year working on-site to help host organizations advance their missions. Anthropic's goals are twofold: equipping host organizations with valuable AI tools and systems, and helping fellows develop AI skills that will benefit their future careers.

The potential benefits of transformative AI systems could be accompanied by significant disruption. Anthropic believes the companies building this technology have a responsibility to ensure those benefits are fully realized and broadly distributed, and to invest directly in the workers navigating the change. To that end, Anthropic is committing an initial $150 million to the program.

If Claude Corps succeeds, it could lay the groundwork for something much larger: a replicable model for widening AI's benefits during a period of vast economic transformation. Anthropic is announcing Claude Corps alongside its policy framework for addressing AI's impact on work.

How Claude Corps Works

Claude Corps is structured as a partnership among three organizations. Anthropic will fund the program, lead overall strategy, and provide Claude expertise. CodePath, an Anthropic nonprofit partner and the largest provider of collegiate computer science education in the US, will serve as the fellows' official employer of record and lead programming during the fellowship. Social Finance, a nonprofit and registered investment advisor, will lead measurement and evaluation, and build a longer-term financial vehicle to help the program scale.

The Fellow Experience

Each fellowship runs for 12 months. At the outset, Anthropic and CodePath will deliver intensive training on using Claude in nonprofit settings. Once placed, fellows will receive five hours of ongoing training each week, with the rest of their time dedicated to their host organization.

Fellows will earn a full-time salary of $85,000 with benefits, receive support from a CodePath mentor, have access to Anthropic office hours for technical questions, be given an expansive Claude token budget, and receive professional guidance from their manager at the host organization.

Over the next 12 months, at least 400 nonprofits will host Claude Corps Fellows. Host organizations include:

  • Braven (Chicago, Illinois) - A nonprofit that teaches first-generation and lower-income students how to secure a strong first job.
  • Code the Dream (Durham, North Carolina) - A nonprofit offering free coding education and paid software apprenticeships to people seeking skills for a better life.
  • Heartland Forward (Bentonville, Arkansas) - A nonpartisan think-and-do tank focused on accelerating economic growth in the American heartland.
  • Montgomery County Food Bank (Conroe, Texas) - A food bank serving children, seniors, and families north of Houston through more than 100 local pantries and partner agencies.
  • Team Red, White & Blue (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) - A nonprofit supporting veteran health and wellness through events and programs centered on healthy lifestyles.
  • Reef Environmental Education Foundation (Key Largo, Florida) - A marine conservation nonprofit conducting underwater surveys to protect reefs.
  • SoundOff (San Antonio, Texas) - A nonprofit providing anonymous access to licensed counselors and peer support for Service Members.
  • StriveTogether (Cincinnati, Ohio) - A national nonprofit supporting local partnerships that use data to help young people thrive.
  • YMCA of Greater Charlotte (Charlotte, North Carolina) - The local Y across the Charlotte region, with 14 Centers, three program facilities, and two overnight camps serving nearly 300,000 kids, families, and seniors annually.

Applications and Timeline

Fellowship applications are open now and close on July 17th for the first cohort of 100, which begins in October 2026. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for the next two cohorts, starting in January 2027 and August 2027. Anyone over 18 with fewer than two years of full-time work experience is eligible to apply, regardless of educational background. The only requirements are US work authorization, comfort working with Claude, and willingness to relocate if necessary. Relocation support is available as needed.

Host organization applications are also open for all cohort start dates. More information about hosting criteria and what's involved is available on the Claude Corps website.

What's Next

Anthropic's ambition is for the program to scale well beyond 1,000 fellows. The company plans to rigorously measure how effectively host organizations advance their missions and how fellows develop their skills and career prospects, in order to inform how Claude Corps should evolve. Anthropic also intends to open-source some of the core technology and infrastructure underpinning the program, so others can build similar initiatives as part of what could become a large-scale nationwide effort. Additionally, Anthropic aims to create a model that can be replicated in countries outside the US.
