India has become Claude.ai's second-biggest global market, with a developer community engaged in highly advanced AI work. Close to 50% of Claude usage within India focuses on computing and mathematical applications, including software development, system modernization, and production deployment.

With the official launch of Anthropic's Bengaluru office, the company reveals new collaborations spanning enterprise, education, and agriculture, strengthening its presence across multiple Indian sectors.

According to Irina Ghose, Anthropic's Managing Director for India, the country offers exceptional potential for deploying responsible AI benefits to millions of people and organizations. India combines strong technical expertise, extensive digital infrastructure, and a successful history of leveraging technology for social improvement.

Developing AI for Over One Billion Indian Language Speakers

India's population exceeds one billion speakers across more than twelve official languages, yet AI models typically show stronger English performance. Anthropic initiated a company-wide program six months ago to address this disparity by gathering superior quality, representative training data in ten major Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu.

Anthropicis collaborating with Karya and the Collective Intelligence Project to create performance evaluations for locally important tasks in agriculture and legal domains. These partnerships include domain specialists from prominent Indian organizations like Digital Green and Adalat AI. The evaluations will guide improvements to future models for Indic language speakers and Indian business applications, with plans to release them publicly.

Enterprise and Startup Collaborations

Anthropicis revenue in India has grown 100% since October 2025's expansion announcement. The customer base spans major enterprises, digitally-focused companies, and emerging startups.

The India team provides specialized AI implementation support to help organizations create, develop, and expand Claude-based solutions customized for their requirements.

Air India employs Claude Code to accelerate custom software development while reducing costs within its broader AI automation strategy. CRED doubled feature delivery speed and improved test coverage by 10% using Claude Code. Cognizant is implementing Claude for 350,000 global employees to update legacy systems and speed up software development.

Indian startups show similar adoption patterns. Razorpay integrates AI throughout risk management, decision systems, and operations. Enterpret uses Claude for its AI assistant and daily engineering tasks, plus has developed an MCP integration for customer insights. Emergent, enabling plain-language software creation, achieved $25 million ARR and two million users in under five months using Claude.

Educational Initiatives for Underserved Communities

Educational applications represent 12% of Claude.ai usage in India. Pratham, among India's biggest education nonprofits, selected Anthropic as its primary strategic AI laboratory partner due to aligned priorities in safety and educational excellence. The organization's Anytime Testing Machine, using Claude technology, currently serves 1,500 students in 20 schools, targeting 100 schools by 2026's end. The system helps students prepare for examinations and has been modified for over 5,000 participants in Pratham's Second Chance initiative for women who left formal education.

Anthropicis working with Central Square Foundation to enhance EdTech and AI implementation for children in underserved areas. The partnership offers technical guidance, mentorship, and API credits to organizations creating AI tools like personalized tutoring, teacher training, and assessment-based instruction.

Scaling AI for National Impact

India has successfully developed interoperable digital public infrastructure that enhances quality of life. Anthropicis partnering with EkStep Foundation to investigate how AI can extend these achievements for population-level benefits in critical sectors.

Agriculture, comprising nearly 16% of India's economy and employing about half the workforce, represents a key focus. Through the OpenAgriNet initiative, Anthropic aims to deploy Claude to broaden expert knowledge access in this vital sector.

Anthropicis also demonstrating Claude Code and Cowork's value for nonprofits, including Noora Health, which provides health coaching to millions, and Intelehealth, connecting remote patients to quality healthcare.

With 50 million pending court cases in India and months-long delays for routine updates, Anthropicis supporting Adalat AI's national WhatsApp helpline launching today. The service uses Claude to deliver immediate case updates, translation, document summarization, and legal document interaction in Indian languages.

Open Standards Promoting Widespread Adoption

Anthropiccreated the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as an open-source standard for connecting AI applications with external systems, recently donating it to the Linux Foundation.

India's Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), supported by Bharat Digital, introduced the first government MCP server, allowing AI users to access official statistics openly. Swiggy utilizes MCP to enable grocery ordering and restaurant reservations through Claude.

Expanding Indian Operations

These partnerships will expand through Anthropic's increased Indian presence. The new Bengaluru office-Anthropic's second Asian location after Tokyo-has officially opened under Managing Director Irina Ghose's leadership, focusing on local talent recruitment across various positions.
